On April 20th, Zakk Wylde and his band, Black Label Society, release their fifth studio album, "Hangover Music Vol. VI", through Spitfire Records. The New Jersey born singer/song writer/guitarist formed BLS in 1998 while maintaining his role as Ozzy Osbourne's lead guitarist.

You know Robbie Cooper. Not just from his days on A&M Records when he was writing and singing with the band 7 Minutes (in which he recorded with the session players Muscle Shoals, from Muscle Shoals, Alabama). But vocally, he'll remind you of Phil Collins (that way of always having a distorting source between voice and the microphone), and vocally And musically, there are definite traces of Peter Gabriel here. Which explains why he was a founding member of Over the Garden Wall, a Genesis- tribute band in Toronto which had long-term success with that progressive rock sound.

The new CD from prolific storyteller Leslie Berry, set for a March 8th release, follows her previous release No Cinderella, a fairy tale for the modern, jaded age. Though there are remnants of that person (especially in the very lovely, stand-out tune, "She's Not Comfortable Being Seen"), Was It Blue? is a strong mix of today's electronica style with the understanding of classic Elton John-type piano pop.

The only thing worse than pretension in music is not having the explanations laid out for you. But in humor, if you call it absurd, you can get away with it just because it sounds funny. That is the mission of Paul Minotto and his eclectic crew of looping-noise- orchestral-narrative new music makers. All right, that might not be much of an explanation itself.
