The Rick Ray Band: Rocking from Past to Future in a Temporary World
by Mark Kirby, In jazz, there is a stalwart tradition of artists rooting their music in history and practicing their craft to pursue excellence. Like artisans the world over, they embrace or have knowledge of all aspects of jazz and, thus, keep the music alive and growing, no matter the commercial climate of the music culture and against all odds. In rock music, however, tradition gives way to the veneer of the new, i.e., fresh faced youth posing to an inspiration-less, warmed-over caricature of a past style. Few take rock seriously enough to explore it thoroughly and bring more than one overcooked dish to the table, like "a metal" or "post punk."

VA., November 1, 2005 : OneTrueVibe Records recording artist Robin Wynn today
released the second single from The Broken Sky EP, entitled
'Hate How I Love You So.' Riding the
success from the first single, 'Broken Sky,' the new track showcases Wynn's
folksier side with a tongue-in-cheek tale about heartache.
"It was a lovely surprise and a
great experience", said Wynn about the success of 'Broken Sky,' which won a
finalist spot in the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival this past summer. "Love and
hate run that fine line, so I decided to combine them in this song," continued
Wynn on the inspiration behind the new single. "It's about that feeling of
loving someone so much you can't stand it."
African Electro Dance Music Strikes Gold: The Music of Yanju
by Mark Kirby, The popular music that has come from America and influenced what people listen to around the world, has its roots in Africa. Blues, jazz, rock and roll, rap, funk and dance music of all types, have spread across the globe thanks to records, radio and now the internet. Every country has its versions of these music forms, but just as dancing is universal, so too is dance music, whether it's funk, techno, house or various combinations and sub genres of these music forms. These DJ-based forms are felt worldwide because they can combine and recombine the music of many cultures. This is the concept behind the music on the new album IWA, by Yanju, a Nigerian singer and producer.
