{article/topic_title} PR 101: A Primer In Publicity

Posted by radiogetswild on (2093 views)

by John Foxwhorthy, Publicity and networking are the two most important parts of any successful music project. Unless you lack aspirations to venture beyond your local scene, your career risks stagnation without them. This is why it's important to get a handle on how to conduct yourself when interacting with radio, publications, labels or any other facet of the music business ... otherwise you chance snuffing your credibility before you even get out of the gate.

by Aaron Minsky a.k.a. Von Cello, Last year, after that famous incident at the Super Bowl, I wrote an article titled, "What Can We Learn From Janet Jackson's Breast?". In that article I spoke about the sexual history of rock performance; how the sexual emphasis started with Elvis and then grew and grew as each generation pushed the envelope further and further, until finally Ms. Jackson opened the envelope: baring her breast on television during a day time, family entertainment event! While I did not take a position on the morality of her display, I did question this trend of mixing sex and music, and wondered when musicianship would again be admired.

{article/topic_title} Finding Music Distribution

Posted by radiogetswild on (1899 views)

by Jaci Rae, Finding a distributor is hard. It can take months and months before you find and secure a distributor, which is not an easy process for independent labels or individuals.

Don't give up or get discouraged; keep plugging away, even if you can't find a

distributor after months of searching. Distributors get a lot of packages on their desks every week, so it's imperative that you contact them first before you send them a package. When calling a distributor, you may get them on the first try, or it may take you weeks before you get a live person to talk to.

by Holly Day, Jennie Rutherford, Tony Meeks & Letitia "Tish" Meeks It's an honest enough question: What preconceptions might people have of this band with two young blond women in the power positions (lead guitar and drums)? "I think they're expecting us to be a little more 'girly' than we actually are," laughs lead singer and guitarist Letitia "Tish" Meeks. "Lots of times, people, when they come to see us, they're like, 'Wow, you guys are really edgy, and intense!' We're very friendly people, and on stage, we interact with each other a lot, and I especially use a lot of facial expressions in songs, like songs that are kind of funny or whatever, so we definitely win fans a lot of our fans from our live performances."
