Eddie Allen and The Aggregation Release Groove’s Mood

Because of his versatility contemporaries will call upon him for his talent to play everything from jazz big band, R&B/Pop, Latin, to symphonic to Broadway, and everything else that may fall somewhere into those genres.

Because of his versatility contemporaries will call upon him for his talent to play everything from jazz big band, R&B/Pop, Latin, to symphonic to Broadway, and everything else that may fall somewhere into those genres.

These many talents come together once again with a group of musicians called The Aggregation on a new release set for release October 6, 2009 on the DBCD imprint titled Groove’s Mood.

The Aggregation is under the direction of Eddie Allen but features many other musicians including Kevin Bryan (lead trumpet & flugel), Cecil Bridgewater, Guido Gonzalez & John Bailey (trumpet & flugel), and many other contributors that make for a magical jazz session in the studio.

Since Eddie arrived on the New York scene he's worked with such jazz greats as Art Blakey, Billy Harper, Randy Weston, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Panama Francis, Joe Henderson and a host of others. It is this vast experience and knowledge that allows him to lead such an impressive group of musicians aptly named The Aggregation. All the compositions on Groove’s Mood were arranged by Allen that includes 10 tracks of contemporary jazz workouts and popular covers of Stevie Wonder tunes such as “You Are The Sunshine” and “My Cherie Amour”.

In addition to leading The Aggregation Eddie Allen also leads a quartet, a quintet, a Latin/Brazilian project and a large ensemble which brings together acoustic and electric/electronic instruments, a big band which not only plays his compositions and arrangements, but also the music of such jazz greats as Jimmy Heath, Bobby Watson, Muhal Richard Abrams and Rufus Reid. Allen also has published author and teacher listed on his impressive resume of accomplishments, his book An Introduction TO The Bb Concert Blues serves as an instructional method book. When his is not playing out live he conducts classes at Long Island University and Brooklyn College.
