Shake-up' for internet proposed

Technology editor, BBC News website Icann oversees the structure of the net The net could see its
biggest transformation in decades if plans to open up the address system
are passed. The net's regulators will vote on Thursday to decide if the strict rules on so-called top level domain names, such as .com or .uk, can be relaxed.
4G: Wireless Broadband
Despite the fact that we have not yet fully implemented 3G and 3.5G
technologies, 4G (which the IEEE officially calls "3G and Beyond") is already on its way, posing a major detriment for the future of 3G. In general, a generation is defined by the technology changes over a 10- to 15-year period, so 4G refers to whatever will be deployed in the 20102015 time frame.

Media futurist: Radio broadcasters must go digital and interactive
Radio broadcasters have been urged to venture into High Definition (HD), digital
and Internet radio or face the risk of being “tuned out†by listeners who are no
longer just receivers of content, but senders too.
Media futurist Gerd Leonhard, while addressing delegates at the RadioAsia2006
conference in Singapore last week, said that audience growth now lies in
interactive services and broadcasters had to be quick to capitalise on this
phenomenon.

Cable operators are continuing to ratchet up the speed of Internet access. The
new magic number for future cable broadband services: 100 Megabits per second.
Last week’s Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ Cable Tec-Expo in
Denver saw at least two product announcements that could accelerate the
throughput of data in cable systems to the 100 Mbps range.
