Cathedral New Album - "The Bridge"

"The Bridge" has been built. The big symphonic sound, the Mellotron, bass pedals, classical guitar, and dramatic themes have been carried over. Three years of experimentation and rehearsal have gone by, more than a year of recording, editing and mixing. Finally "The Bridge" is ready for the public. The classical precepts of progressive music were never far from our mind. The new work pays tribute to it's roots but is also a "bridge " to the Cathedral of the future. We literally had to rediscover our chemistry after thirty years of life experience and new technology. It has been a very challenging journey.

In 1978 "Stained Glass Stories" was recorded above the Palace Theater in the then wild and notorious Times Square of Manhattan. We had a week to do it. The modern Cathedral chose a more serene setting and pace. We spent much of 2006/7 at Ian London studios close to home on the South Shore of Long Island. Deer grazed on the back lawn but inside we were co-producing in the same passionate, intense way that we write our music. Our long time colleague and proprietor of Paris Recording, Brian Unger was brought in to engineer.

The future is now before us. We've already returned to writing, eager to put to use new ideas that have catalyzed from the process of last year. The chemistry is there, new compounds are forming, formulas evolving. Cathedral moves forward.

Neall Alcott's Debut CD, Rittenhouse Square

Rittenhouse Square is the debut, self-released CD from singer/songwriter Neall Alcott. Neall is an indie songwriter from New Jersey who took almost 10 years off from the music industry while concentrating on his family life and career.

An IT (Information Technology) executive during the day, Neall was pleasantly surprised by the convergence of his two favorite pastimes: music and technology, in particular the Internet. This spurred Neall to get the guitars out of storage and to start writing and performing again.

Asked how he thinks the Internet has changed the music industry, Neall says "It has really given individuals like me an outlet to express themselves. 10 years ago, I would have had to be discovered by a record company, sign a contract that may or may not have benefited me, and then, if the stars aligned, been able to release a CD. With today's technology, I can record a professional sounding album in my home, use independent CD manufacturers, and independent distributors like CDBaby to get my music out into the marketplace all without a record company. If others discover and enjoy my music too, then that's great."

Rittenhouse Square is a collection of 12 songs recorded between Jan. 2007 and June 2007. The songs are in the pop rock realm, with different influences (Beatles, XTC, Lindsey Buckingham, Squeeze, Michael Penn, U2, and others) that are blended together. The songs are actually a diverse collection, with styles ranging from acoustic/electric pop rock to folk rock to modern rock.

When asked whether this collection of songs were too diverse for today's audiences, Neall says "At first I got concerned that the album was too diverse, but I always enjoyed diverse albums like the Beatles' White Album, so I figured why not? My approach with the CD was to write and record songs that I would enjoy. So hopefully that explains the different styles and feels to the songs."
