The Big Dig Hiking Trip 2006
First off many thanks to everyone who turned out and traveled from all over the
globe, from as far away as South Africa, Holland, USA, Ireland, and not
forgetting all over the UK.
It was a storming party with people arriving around 12 noon Saturday and leaving
for home the Thursday morning. from record labels , Artists listeners and
broadcasters.
Events where a trip to the Queens Norfolk Home at Sandringham House and
Sandringham Church.
The
gardens were of outstanding beauty on a warm and wind free day. We were not
allowed to take pictures inside the great palace, but were allowed our cameras'
in the outbuildings where they keep all the old Rolls Royce's and Daimler cars
and many other incredible artifacts.
A Medieval Castle not far from Kings Lynn Castle Rising and Castle Rising Church
(which Her Royal Majesty Queen Elisabeth visits often, also St
Margaret's Church
Kings Lynn steeped with 800 years of History. Castle Rising Pictures in the RGW
gallery also show battle re-enactments which are often acted and fought out
through-out the summer season.
The Castle is a massive stone ringwork and bailey fortress, founded by William de Albini. The impressive Norman hall-keep and handsome forebuilding, stands almost concealed within the formidable bank and ditch of the central oval enclosure. To the east, a small square gatehouse is set in the bank with a fragment of the 14th century brick curtain wall to one side. A rectangular enclosure strongly banked and ditched guards the gatehouse and to the west there is a smaller flanking enclosure. Also in the inner enclosure, are the foundations of an 11th century Norman chapel, hard against the huge defensive earthworks
Hiking walk to a local Archaeological dig the place at
Sedgeford where gold
coins where found in a cows bone and many more finds of which i will do a review
on this place later. A visit also to Sedgeford Church.
A hoard of gold staters inside a cow’s leg bone has been found in the last week of SHARP’s 2003 summer season. The discovery was made by Kevin Woodward, an RAF technician and regular SHARP volunteer, who was metal-detecting in the waterlogged area of the Boneyard-Reeddam excavation prior to shutting down the site. As well as the cow bone, eleven other dispersed staters were found nearby to add to the eight recovered since 1996. The cow bone itself was X-rayed and found to contain 20 more staters. Presumably all 39 coins had originally been hidden in the shaft of the bone, but later ditches and grave-cuts had smashed the bone and dispersed part of the hoard.
Hunstanton Seaside Arcade Fun
is where we introduced our International guests to good ole fashion English
Fish n Chips with a typical rainy wet n windy day thrown in for good sauce.
Winnings for the day was a nice white car out of the Arcade.
Hunstanton, built in the mid-1800s by Henry Styleman LeStrange as a getaway for
the Victorian rich and famous, has always been home to entertainment and a
plethora of outdoor activities. Within Hunstanton itself, sports include
sailing, kite and wind surfing, lawn bowling, tennis (the UK's largest
tournament is held here) and golf in any shape or form (Old Hunstanton boasts
one of the nation's top links courses). There are many lovely pubs in and around
Hunstanton if you prefer a more relaxed break and a stroll along beach as the
sun goes down is sure to be a highlight.
The party itself went deep into Saturday night with Karaoke singing and buffy special thanks to Rocking Dave for bringing his karaoke machine and gear. and before anyone asks yes we have the evidence of 1 Karaoke video and you will see and hear for yourself the very reason why DJ's very rarely become artists and release mega albums but who knows it might become a number 1 hit yet lol. An outstanding thanks to DJ Dee who shopped, prepped and dished out all the wonderful food. As everyone passed out the well deserved complements for a mind blowing job. Also many thanks to Metal Mike who baked his own cake and brought to the party for everyone to enjoy.

A big thanks to DJ Maze from Holland
(Photo below DJ Gandolf from South Africa on the left) as we pulled the studio
completely apart and redesigned from the ground up starting Sunday and finished
Tuesday
Nuts as it sounds i have already started to think out the trips for next party
so here is my suggestions. These trips would be depending on weather i.e on
sunny days Dinosaur park and Seaside others would be for rainy days
Norwich Castle
GT Witchingham Dinosaur park
Sheringham Steam Train Ride
Hunstanton Seaside & Fairground rides
Gt Holkham Hall & Museum
This being on different arrangements for a party week where expenses would have
to be worked out for everyone from food & accommodation to ticket fees. And of
course guests would probably have to book a weeks holiday from work.
Depending on how many wish to make the next party Hiring mini busses would be a
good idea to cut down on travel costs and anyone having trouble with walking a
wheel chair..
Well that's the party week over till next time many thanks to everyone..
