Interview with Music Gorilla Band 3 Kisses

[Music Gorilla] If you could play alongside any artist, who would it be?

[Tish] Tough question for me. Guitar player - I'd have to say Lindsey Buckingham. Tom Petty because he's the songwriter I most admire. And Andrew WK because of his shows are so intense in such a fun and positive way. Actually, I've already been onstage with Andrew a couple of times.

[Tony] Lindsey Buckingham. If he's not available, Mike Campbell who plays with Tom Petty.

[A.J.] I wouldn't change who I was playing with already for anything, but I wouldn't mind guest appearing with Joan Jett!

[Melissa] If I'm not with 3 Kisses then I'd want A.J. and me to play with Tori Amos.

[Music Gorilla] Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin or Nirvana?

[Tish] Nirvana. They're the polar opposite of 3 Kisses, but they rock. I love the angst-ridden grunge because it is so different from what we're all about.

[Tony] Stones, definitely. You have to have Sympathy for the Devil.

[A.J.]Janis, all the way! She had so much heart and soul and I just loved the way she would blaze through her set!

[Melissa] Rolling Stones because they have always been great rockin' entertainers.

[Music Gorilla] Bring back the dead! Who is it and why?

[Tish] Dimebag Darrel because he was such a great guy. I had a friend who roadied for Pantera in the early 90's and I used to hang out with the guys a lot. Darrel was always running around trying to draw on his friends with Sharpies. Now my friends know where I learned that trick.

[Tony] Freddie King. Big man, big guitar, big songs. Freddie King was always 'Ready'.

[A.J.] Stevie Ray Vaughn because he influenced me musically and I wish I at least had the opportunity to tell him thank you so much for his music.

[Melissa] Bob Marley because he would still be creating wonderful music for us to enjoy.

[Music Gorilla] Your first music memory?

[Tish] I started playing piano when I was 7. I can't really remember a time when music wasn't a part of my life.

[Tony] My mom playing LPs while she ironed and remembering how beautiful the music sounded. It just grabbed me. The guy playing the guitar in the music that I heard was Chet Atkins.

[A.J.] Listening to my folks old 33's and 45's and just being awestruck by this rockin' music from The Beatles to Johnny Cash.

[Melissa] In third grade four of us got to make guitars out of wood, rubber bands and staples so we could perform a Beatles tribute gig for the whole school. I was Paul.

[Music Gorilla] A night you'd like to forget?

[Tish] I don't have any. That's what Jager's for.

[Tony] Losing my brother in a car wreck. But I concur with Melissa any night that I spew any combination of alcoholic beverages.

[A.J.] The night I found out I lost a family member to suicide.

[Melissa] Any night I spew white wine.

[Music Gorilla] Coffee, Vodka etc. Name your "choice"!

[Tish] Arizona Green Tea, Propel, Miller Lite, Shiner, Guinness, Jagermeister.

[Tony] Coffee in the morning, 3 Martini lunch, beer in the evening, punctuated by Jager at 10, 2 and 4.

[A.J.] Coca Cola and Crown, Guinness and Water, what else is there?

[Melissa] Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Vanilla Chai Soy Milk, water and Appleton Estate Rum and Coca Cola.

[Music Gorilla] While on stage, you feel like _______

[Tish] I am going to have as much fun as is humanly possible because I know how lucky I am to be doing what I love. The adrenaline rush is overwhelming!

[Tony] Like I'm climbing into the 3 Kisses Rocket. I feel like Pavlov's dog as Melissa clicks off the count for the first song. I've got a smile on my face and I feel like I'm going for the ride of my life.

[A.J.] Onstage I feel untouchable, I feel like I'm flying faster than light. Performing and making music gives me an ecstasy unlike anything I have ever experienced. I can't even find words to describe the incredible surge of energy and joy I have onstage.

[Melissa] I feel inspired and focused, most of the time, the other times I just zone on the great time I'm having.

[Music Gorilla] Favorite 3 Kisses song, why?

[Tish] That is constantly in flux. Asking this question is like asking me to pick which one of my kids is my favorite. All of our songs mean different things to me at different times. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd probably go with Ordinary, Out of Control and Fly Away because they are all a lot of fun to perform.

[Tony] My favorite 3 Kisses song today is Undone. The complexity of the music, the power of the message and how tight the band is on this song.

[A.J.] My favorites are the fast songs, the 'power songs' as we like to call them, but I really like Turn Around, Misery Loves Company and Undone, too.

[Melissa] Out Of Control because it gets everyone, including me, pumped up.

[Music Gorilla] Sexiest male and female rockers are?

[Tish] Andrew WK, Marilyn Manson, Gwen Stefani

[Tony] Paul McCartney - the old dude still has it. No contest - Tish Meeks (hey, I'm sleeping with her)!

[A.J.] Sexiest male rocker - Dave Navarro and Lenny Kravitz as a close second, sexiest female rocker - Joan Jett, Nancy Wilson and new to the list, Kelly Clarkson.

[Melissa] Travis Barker and Dave Navarro, Joan Jett, Tori Amos and Tracy Chapman.

[Music Gorilla] 3 Kisses website and what's on the horizon for the band?

[Tish]Our second album will be out in March, we'll be playing multiple showcases during SXSW including the Austin Indie Alliance Showcase at Dizzy Rooster on March 15 at 11pm, the Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass on March 16 at 6pm (venue pending), The Invasion of the GoGirls Showcase at Trophy's on March 16 around midnight and others still to come. We're doing some big events such as Mamapalooza in Dallas, Friends Fest, Susan G. Komen Races in San Antonio and Waco this spring, and we have a lot of national touring planned for the summer months. We just want to get out there and play to as many people as we can, have as much fun as possible and enjoy the experiences and adventures 2006 has in store, whatever they may be. We're already working on material for the next album, so we'll probably start recording again in the early fall. Oh, and we plan to consume excessive amounts of alcohol in our free time.
