MELBOURNE, VIC. – February 15, 2005 – The world’s first portable compact Internet radio device, developed within Australia, finished in the top three products of the ‘Audio to go’ category at the 2005 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Torian introduced InFusion at this year’s Las Vegas show, the largest annual consumer technology tradeshow in the world. Fellow Australian Company Grey Innovation was brought in to provide the engineering skills for the development of the product.

Entered in the ‘Audio to go’ category of the G4tech TV’s Best of CES alongside industry giants such as Creative and Apple, InFusion finished in the top three. Identified as a best of CES finalist is a major boost for both the product developer Torian, as well as the Melbourne-based engineering company Grey Innovation, contracted to develop both the hardware and the software for the product.

Torian introduced InFusion at the 2005 CES to demonstrate the power of their new iRoamer technology. Developed by Grey Innovation, the iRoamer technology is the first of its kind. It provides users with a portable Internet radio connection allowing them to tune into any radio station, anywhere in the world while in a wireless hot spot.

This new iRoamer technology is the core of Infusion. InFusion packs in other features such as audio recording either directly from the Internet or via a timer, MP3 player, news/sport/weather banner, FM receiver, and rechargeable batteries. These features are all contained within a well-designed portable handheld device, approximately the size of a credit card.

The future for iRoamer is as a complementary technology embedded in existing products. IRoamer has the potential to add an entirely new dimension to many existing product lines such as home theatre/stereo systems, portable radios, MP3 players, stereo amplifiers, mobile phones, televisions and DVD players.

The 2005 International CES saw more than 2500 exhibitors introduce thousands of new products and technologies. This annual event showcases the hottest new products and trends in audio, accessories, home networking, mobile electronics, video and wireless.

G4tech TV’s Best of CES awards recognise the top products in 12 different categories. These awards focus on the design and engineering of the most innovative products of 2005. From the thousands of entries 30 Best of CES finalists are chosen, three in each category.

The ‘Audio to go’ category of the awards included all portable digital audio players, portable satellite radio receivers, speakers and headphones. Finalists were chosen from hundreds of submissions and judged on specific criteria. This criterion included usability and usefulness, value for money, and the “wow” factor.

More specifically, each product was evaluated on their ability to: solve a real problem or address a real need; excite the consumer after purchase; remain affordable within the constraints of the category; create an entirely new category or change the capability of an existing category; and capture the “wow” factor.
