March 18, 2010-New York, New York- Barb Jungr is renowned for her unique vocal style and approach to arrangements and interpretations of a wide range of songs. When you hear her sing The Talking Heads classic track “Once In A Lifetime†on the upcoming release The Men I Love-The New American Songbook, you will find yourself caught up in the elucidation and forget who actually originally did the song to begin with. That is homage to the diverse talents of Barb Jungr and her mastery of the art of using the Vox Humana.
The critics have compared Jungr to Nina Simone and Peggy Lee, calling her "a British Edith Piaf", "One of the best interpreters of Jacques Brel and Bob Dylan anywhere on this angst ridden planet today" (Village Voice, New York) and “mesmerizing†(The New York Times).
Barb Jungr was born and raised in the northwest of England and moved to London in the mid 1970’s then became part of the early alternative cabaret circuit performing and recording with the cult vocal harmony group The Three Courgettes. Shortly thereafter she formed a twelve year song writing and musical partnership with blues guitarist, songwriter and singer Michael Parker, recording several albums.
Barb Jungr is not only a respected lyricist; she is a writer and songwriter for a number of productions and producers including The Birmingham Stage Company, Newbury Corn Exchange and others. Currently under development is a children’s musical with The Little Angel Puppet Theatre and she is in a partnership with composer Jonathan Cooper and writing the book and lyrics celebrating the circus star tiger tamer Mabel Stark. In addition to a collaborative effort with physical theatre practitioner John Paul Zaccarini she is working on The Art Of Falling Gracefully supported by Newbury Corn Exchange. In addition to all of those projects running concurrently she writes regularly for The Singer.
Lack of work does not seem to be an issue for the talented Barb Jungr and with advent of her recent interpretive masterpiece for Naim The Men I Love-The New American Songbook, it is one more feather in her cap for the multitude of art she shares with her audiences. With songs by Neil Diamond, Leonard Cohen, David Gates and a host of others, it becomes obvious who are the men she loves.
Barb Jungr Celebrates the Release of her new CD The Men I Love-The New American Songbook Tuesday thru Sunday May 18-23 at the Metropolitan Room in New York City.
The Men I Love-The New American Songbook is available for download currently directly from the Barb Jungr website and the CD version of the recording is due May 11th. Visit her home on the web for more information regarding the latest projects and updates on performances.
