Record deal on offer for Norfolk band

And with a client list that reads like a Who's Who of modern pop music they can certainly claim to be world class. Famous names such as the Arctic Monkeys, KT Tunstall and US blues maestro Seasick Steve have all recorded with them - and now the recording studio run by producer Nick Brine and ex-Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins is offering a lucky local band the chance of a lifetime

Leeders Farm recording studio at Spooner Row, near Wymondham, is giving an unsigned local band an “amazing and unique opportunity” to have their music released and promoted on KAN Records, the studio's independent record label.

Nick said it was a great chance for up-and-coming bands to get their music heard and that he hoped it would encourage interest in the local music scene, particularly from London.

He is offering his favourite unsigned local band recording at Leeders Farm between now and the end of February the chance to have their recording released and promoted.

The bands will be given preferential rates, meaning they will have to pay only a fraction of the fee paid by regular clients for using the studio facilities. At the end of February, Nick will listen to the artists' recordings and pick a favourite to be released.

He said: “There are some absolutely fantastic unsigned bands across East Anglia. We have a lot of local bands coming in and they all want to know who to send their recordings to and how to get signed. But when they come back to us, they say things like, 'We sent our demo to 100 people and not one has replied', which is such a shame.

“A lot of these bands are really good. We would really like to give something back to the local music scene and release one of them.

“This is a great opportunity for us to get involved with the local talent in East Anglia. At the end of the day, we are always looking for the next big thing.”

Nick said the studio was already taking on a classic rock band from Yarmouth called Nausia on an EP deal and tipped another band from Dereham called The Union Jacks as one to watch out for in the future.

He added: “There is an opportunity here for my favourite band, but it doesn't have to just be one. If we find 10 bands that we love we will release 10 songs.”

Nick said he was really proud of the success of Leeders Farm. “When the phone rings and it's the Arctic Monkeys manager saying they want to come in, you know that you are doing something right,” he said. “There is a big buzz when something like that happens.

“At the moment, studios are closing down left, right and centre, so it is not the best time to be starting one up.

“Having said that, you cannot get any bigger than the Arctic Monkeys and KT Tunstall, so I feel very proud of what we have achieved.”
