Snapvine Frequently asked Questions
Top Questions
Q. I can't find an answer to my question, what should I do?
A. You can also check out our message board OR contact us
Q. What happened to my shortcode? I used to see it every time I clicked
the 'record by phone' button, but now it shows a different code every time.
What's going on?
A. We've just made shortcodes shorter! We've had so many people sign up for
Snapvine that they were getting really long. So, now, when you click on the
'record by phone' we create a temporary 4 digit shortcode that works just like
the old one.
Q. Can I keep using my old short code?
A. Yes! You can keep using you old short code as long as you dial the Snapvine
main number: 641 985 7878.
Q. Is the snapvine Voice Player free?
A. Yes, the snapvine Voice Player is free. We don't charge any hidden fees or
ongoing charges or nasty surprises. We promise. However, it is a domestic (USA)
long distance call-- it's not toll free. Depending on what sort of phone plan
you have, you might be charged for these calls by your phone company. Many cell
phone plans do not charge anything extra for domestic long distance calls.
Q. I have a Voice Player and I want more voice comments. What should I do?
A. Nobody likes an empty Voice Player. Here are some suggestions: The best way
to get comments is to simply tell your friends to leave them for you... don't be
shy! You can send a Myspace bulletin, send emails, or write it in your blog. You
can also put text in your Myspace page asking for comments. Maker sure to:
Tell them it's free and that there is no need to register
Include a link to your page (so they can see your Voice Player and listen to the
comments they leave)
Record a personal introduction, and ask people to leave you a comment. Voice
Players with personal intros get lots more comments. Upload a photo. Voice
Players with photos get lots more comments.
Permanent Codes
Q. What is a permanent code and why is it different than the number I see
when I click "record by phone"?
A. The permanent code is for using in blogs and sending by email. The number you
see when you click "record by phone" is different. It is temporary, 4 digits,
and is only associated with the Voice Player when the "record by phone" button
is clicked. The 4-digit numbers are recycled after they are used and are not
permanent.
Q. What number should I use when I tell my friends to call and leave me a
Voice Comment?
A. If you want to give your number to your friends or post it in a weblog or on
your website, you should give out the Snapvine phone number and your permanent
code. Your permanent code can be found on your profile.
Installing your Voice Player
Q. Why won't the Voice Player show up on my page?
A. The most common reason for this is that the html code was not copied
correctly. So delete the code you pasted in and try again. Usually that does the
trick. Some formatting or other widgets may interfere with the Voice Player. In
this case, put the Voice Player in a section that does not contain any other
html.
Q. How do I reinstall my Voice Player if I accidentally delete it?
A. Reinstalling your Voice Player is a snap. Simply go to
www.snapvine.com and click on Widgets and
then click on "Voice Player", then follow the instructions. By logging in first,
then copying the html code, you will be able to keep all of your existing voice
comments.
Q. Can I put the Voice Player in more than one place?
A. Yes. You can paste multiple copies of your Voice Player on different sites.
They will all display the same voice comments.
Q. Where can I install the Voice Player?
A. You can install the Voice Player on any website that supports flash and html.
Using your Voice Player
Q. When I dial in to record a comment or validate my phone or record an
intro, my phone is blocked. What can I do about it?
A. The most common reason for this is that your caller ID is not working. Try
this:
make sure your caller ID is not disabled
make sure you are dialing from your validated phone
dial your local call in number (do not dial international)
don't use a VOIP phone service (such as Skype)
don't use an office phone
If you are still having problems, please contact us
Q. Someone left me a voice comment, but I never received it. Am I doing
something wrong?
A. A few things may have happened:
Your friends may have mis-dialed your short code. Try recording a personal
introduction (instructions below), so that your friends hear your voice when
they call in to leave you a voice comment.
You may have your Voice Player set to private mode, in which case the comments
will not be visible until you approve them. You can change this by changing your
privacy settings (instructions below).
Q. What if I am cancelling my account with one social network and moving to
another?
A. Your Voice Player works on almost any social network. You can take it with
you and you won't lose any of your existing comments. Simply go to
www.snapvine.com go to your profile, and
click on "Choose a New Voice Playerâ„¢ Skin". When you paste the code into another
site, your existing voice comments will carry over.
Q. What are mobile alerts? How do I sign up? Do they cost anything?
A. These are text messages that can be automatically sent to your cell phone to
tell you when you've received a voice comment. You can sign up for these by
logging in, then clicking on "settings", then changing your "notification
options". Snapvine does not charge for these, though your cell phone company
may. If you want to try it out-go ahead! You can always change your settings
later. International users: we now support international mobile alerts.
Q. What is a "Shout Out" and how do I send one?
