Longview, Texas has long been a hotbed for country music artists. Ricky Lynn Gregg had number one hits in the early 90's, Neal McCoy is still riding the charts and new girl singer Sunny Sweeney, who recently landed a major record deal in Nashville, all claim Longview as home. The Vehicle Reason, a rock band from Longview, has given notice that rock is alive and well in East Texas. The release of their debut CD, "Odds On Occurrence," and the crowds they pull at their live gigs demonstrates the impact this group is having on the pop/rock scene.

In addition to the release of the CD, The Vehicle Reason was recently accepted to appear as showcasing artist at the Atlantis Music Conference and Festival in Atlanta, GA, September 19-22. The 10th anniversary conference and festival for Atlantis will give The Vehicle Reason exposure to the right industry personnel and an opportunity to enhance their fan base.

The Vehicle Reason has been in existence for a little over a year, but the guys have previous band experience. The trio consists of Jay Baker, guitar/vocals, younger brother Nick Baker, bass/vocals and Mac Carl, drums/vocals. Jay and Mac had left their previous bands and started writing and working together, first as a hobby, but as they begin to click, they added Nick to complete the group.

Their first object was to get playing dates. They recorded a demo CD with five tracks and started sending the demo to venues in Texas and surrounding states. The response was good and they began playing dates in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Crowd response and sizes have been extremely favourable.

Inspired by the success they were having, the trio became a songwriting machine. They were obsessed with recording a proper, full length project of their own music.
Armed with songs, the band began looking for a producer, which they finally found in Dallas/Fort Worth's Alex Gerst, a well respected producer and engineer in the metroplex. Gerst and The Reason honed and sharpened the songs together. "Odds On Occurrence" is the result of their efforts.

Odds On Occurrence

In reference to "Odds On Occurrence," the band stated that the CD "is inspired by all the events that seem out of place, events that happen in life whether you want them to or not. This happened to us over several years; moving off, going to college, being in other bands, all of which led us back to our hometown and back to each other for the formation of The Vehicle Reason. We are a three piece band with huge ambitions. We strive to sound full and different, without boundaries of what others are making. We don't think we are creating a new sound or a groundbreaking genre, but we do feel we are making music that laymen and musician will both appreciate."

With the release of the new CD, the busy tour schedule and the appearance at the Atlantis Music Conference and Festival, The Vehicle Reason has accomplished more in such a comparable short time as opposed to groups who have been together much longer. If work ethic breeds success, The Vehicle Reason is on their way.
