citing artistic and social differences and finds new inspiration in the
North Country.Celebrated pianist and recording artist
Adrian Carr played his last concert at Carnegie Recital Hall in March of
2004. Within the year, he had packed up his career, his established
recording studio in Midtown Manhattan, even his home, to move north. Adrian
flourished through 25 years of life in New York City despite the cockroach
infested apartments, the Fiscal Crisis of the late 70's, the 1993 World Trade Center
Bombing, and of course 9-11. But that's is not what pushed Adrian
Carr out of New York City.
In 2004 High Mountain Records released Adrian's seminal CD,
Days of the Year and while working in his studio when one day he realized
that life in New York City was no longer in sync with his music and values.
"The priorities of money and profit have closed the doors not only to the
support of the arts in our society, but even to the point of compromising the
inner values of artists today. And life in New York City has clearly
distanced itself from supporting the lifestyle of the artist. I find this
very sad." says Adrian.
After a Bachelors from the prestigious Juilliard School and a Masters from Princeton University, Adrian started his recording studio in New York City in 1990. "The classically trained artist who has invested years of his life becoming a better musician is only competing for the crumbs off the media-entertainment table. Why is a school like Juilliard even allowed to keeps its doors open when the graduates of such a great school are only shown to the back room of a Wall Street Law Firm to do the typing of briefs as evening work to earn their living. This seems almost like he equivalent of sweat shops in our American Society." says Adrian.
High Mountain Records has re-released his CD, Days of the Year and Adrian is now working on a new CD entitled Finding Charlotte. In addition, he has been busy playing concerts to introduce his music to the North Country, Vermont and Montreal. At Arts Café in Montreal, the audiences have been standing room only.
