Overseas Contracting Opportunity Proves Rewarding For Young Record Label CEO
CAMP NAVISTAR, Kuwait – 3:00 a.m. Site Lead James McLaughlin awakens and
prepares for his three mile run before starting work for a well-known DOD
contracting company. "I chose this job because I've always loved the military.
There's something about waking up early in the morning to do PT that I just
couldn't get out of my system when I got out of the army", says McLaughlin. The
military provides a high level of on the job training, discipline and integrity
that proves valuable as he also begins a career as Founder & C.E.O. of a
Texas-based independent recording label, WoodYard Entertainment, LLC.
After completing a four-year enlistment, he took his training and entered the corporate world. There he attended Grahams Barber College as well as multiple distance learning schools to go on to earn his Texas Barber Stylist license and personal fitness certifications. It was around this point in his career that his love for music and for helping others pressured him into seriously re-evaluating his plans for the future. "I saw the need for new C.E.O.'s in the [music] industry, C.E.O.'s that enjoy helping others, especially those who are less fortunate and have made bad decisions in life, which ultimately costs them their plans for a bright future. With the right amount of determination and leadership, I know music can help turn these lives around. So I founded WoodYard Entertainment." expresses McLaughlin.
The WoodYard focus is not to cater to the major record labels, but rather develop their artists' talent the way they see fit. With the artist's best interest in mind, McLaughlin passes on the same discipline and integrity that was ingrained in him while in the ARMY. McLaughlin states, "I maintain a high level of professionalism. I keep my mind on business at all times in an effort to disassociate myself from others not willing to sacrifice for what they believe in. Being the site lead as well as running my own record label proves to be a difficult task, but as leader in both outfits, I need to have my hands on everything. I stay focused on both missions and thus far I've had no complaints."
Working overseas for more than four years now, miles from family and friends in the U.S., has allowed this young visionary to financially support his career goals. McLaughlin concludes, "My mission is to stay overseas as a DOD Contractor until the job is done. The job is not done until WoodYard Entertainment, LLC is mainstream."
