MusicDish and ComPosition Live @ Lula The Accidental Festival Proudly Present Rita Di Ghent & THE SPRAWL PROJECT feat. Brownman with DJ Dalia / CHRY 105.5 'Best Kept Secret'
Rita Di Ghent's (www.ritadighent.com) 1999 recording The Birth of Sprawl remains a landmark in Canadian music, and a classic sonic slice of Torontonia. No other Canadian female vocalist before or since has even attempted to bring together such premium jazz musicianship and cutting-edge urban/hiphop beats & lyrics. MusicDish and ComPosition is delighted to present, as a Sign of Spring, the first Toronto Sprawl show in almost two years and a preview of Rita's forthcoming and highly-anticipated Sprawl Indigo CD.

Joining her at Lula will be an all-star lineup of Sprawlers including: NOW Magazine 2005 Jazz Artist of the Year Nick "Brownman" Ali (www.brownman.com) on trumpet; National Jazz Award winner Dave Restivo on keys, Dane Wedderburn on e-bass; and drummer Rich Brisco.

Bringing the jazzy and estro-centric hiphop & soul behind the decks will be DJ Dalia (www.myspace.com/djdalia), host of 'Best Kept Secret' on CHRY 105.5 (Wednesdays 6-8 PM) and many popular parties around the city such as Never Forgive Action and the long-running In Divine Styles.

Acclaim for Rita Di Ghent & The Sprawl Project

"The Birth of Sprawl is intelligent without coming across like it's trying to be... Rita paints lyrical pictures with color and detachment, pulling you in and leaving you wondering about the hookers, drunks, homeless and di Ghent herself... Who knows ‹ maybe one day they'll make one of those Canadian Heritage commercials about the invention of Sprawl." - Eye Weekly

"Intrepid. A jazz iconoclast. di Ghent presents a unique musical personality. Using the elegant swing of jazz, but leaping into soulful grooves and acid street poetry, di Ghent's stylish persona rings crystal clear." - Andrew Sun, NOW Magazine

"Å one of the most confident and innovative singer-songwriters of our generation." - Planet Jazz, The International Jazz Review
