Veoh Networks Ushers In New Age Of Legal P2P Video Distribution With Release Of VeohNet

Veoh Networks, Inc., the first Internet Television Peercasting Network, today announced its VeohNet protocol, the company's video transport system that significantly surpasses the capabilities of existing peer to peer (P2P) systems in effectively distributing high-quality video.

The VeohNet protocol is the backbone of Veoh Networks, which will launch in beta in the coming weeks. Veoh Networks was founded by Dmitry Shapiro, a technologist best known for creating the world's leading P2P security software used by more than one million enterprise users today to manage and regulate applications like BitTorrent and Grokster.

"Our engineers and I have spent the last five years dealing with various P2P networks including BitTorrent, eDonkey and FastTrack, as well as the dozens of applications that support these protocols, including Grokster, KaZaa and Morpheus." said Dmitry Shapiro, Veoh's CEO. "We have created a new protocol that sets a new standard in terms of both technology and legitimacy for content owners. In contrast to earlier approaches, our focus from inception has been respecting the rights of content owners."

According to a recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology study, existing decentralized swarmcast systems are fundamentally limited, especially in their ability to penetrate firewalls, requiring users to open ports in order for the systems to work effectively. VeohNet uses advanced firewall traversal technology to provide excellent performance to all users without firewall adjustments or decreasing security requirements. VeohNet was also specifically designed to provide DMCA compliance, unlike traditional systems that do not take this in to account and enable the rampant piracy of intellectual property.

IFPI Tracks Unauthorised Depeche Mode Pre-Release Download To Poland

Police in Poland have arrested a Polish individual alleged to have accessed a secure pre-release video copy of the new Depeche Mode single Precious and made it available for public download without authorisation.

The police action followed investigations by IFPI, representing the recording industry internationally, and Polish recording industry group ZPAV after a link to the video was found posted on a Polish internet site in July.

IFPI and ZPAV worked with Depeche Mode's record label Mute and its parent company EMI to remove the link which was first posted online publicly on a forum site used by Depeche Mode fans.

IFPI then examined a German server, on which the video had been posted originally, with strictly controlled access. After analysing the data, numerous attempts to download the video were identified as coming from a specific internet address in Kielce, Poland.

"Hitting one million downloads is obviously a big milestone, but we are still in the early growth phase for downloadable sheet music and guitar tablature," said Musicnotes' CEO Kathleen Marsh.

"I really like Musicnotes," said Henley, an amateur piano player who has purchased from the Musicnotes.com site numerous times, including the 1,000,000th download. "They have a great selection and the site is very easy to use."
