MISSION OF JOE BLACK GROUP
Besides, through our music, we want to give a little contribution to help the poorest children of the world, and we want to take our part into the fight against this political and economical system, which is leading more and more to the total exploitation of resources, reducing many innocent people to starvation.
BIOGRAPHY
The Joe Black Group was born in May 2005, based on an idea of its songwriter and keyboard player Giovanni Orlando, aka “Joeâ€, who, together with the eclectic Andrea Gemmato (“Ritratto di un mattino gruppo rock progressiveâ€, that is to say: “Portrait of a morning - progressive rock groupâ€), begins to develop ‘60s- and ‘70s-like sounds.
Two months later Claudio Merico, violinist and founder of the “Anonima Folk†folk rock group, collaborates to enrich these new sounds. With these elements, they give birth to the first Joe Black Group’s cd, focused on the search for a kind of sound coming from three different musical periods: the ‘70s, the ‘80s and the ‘90s. The title of this first work is “Artic Mindâ€, but it isn’t distributed because of founds shortage at that time. “Artic Mind†has three important collaborations in it: the one of Simone Costantino, who contributed positively with his voice and his rap style; the one of Flavia Falanga, aka "Meei" (voice in "Time has come"); and the one of Alessandra Fineo (voice in "Rain").
At the end of the summer of 2006, the group finds, within a few weeks, the three missing components, namely: Stefano Spataro (founder of “Ritratto di un mattinoâ€) and his electric bass, Marcello De Felice (drummer of “Anonima Folkâ€) and that astonishing soul voice of Ilaria Fuggetti’s, who will soon become one of the columns and fundamental members of the group.
From the October of 2006 and up to the July of 2007, the Joe Black Group consolidate its position with the three principal members (Giovanni Orlando, Ilaria Fuggetti and Andrea Gemmato) and with important collaborations, first of which is the one with Claudio Merico (violin), then with Stefano Spataro and Marcello De Felice.
This is the starting line of the new cd. In July 2007, Andrea Gemmato (electric guitar) leaves the band, but this is no earthquake: on the other hand, the band (Ilaria, Joe and Stefano with the unique collaboration of Claudio Merico) can continue to carry on the hard work for the second cd. December 2007 witnesses an important change: Stefano (bass) leaves the band, in accord with the rest of the members, to follow his personal project (Ada Nuky) and his place is taken by an extraordinary and bright bass player: Anna Annicchiarico, aka “Nina, the sweet iron bassâ€, who starts immediately to mark her personal style, both musically and personally, in four songs: “Deep inside†and “The beginningâ€, in both of which she also helps in writing the lyrics. Besides, she writes the lyrics for the beautiful “My little soldierâ€.
In January 2008, the Joe Black Group receives a phone call from an important international company for discography distribution and marketing, the Pirames International in the person of Federico Montesanto, with the result that they actually obtain a contract for the digital distribution of their first cd: “Faithâ€.
Other projects, still in an early stage, are the opening of a Recording Studio, of a Proof Studio and an audio/video production society, to give the possibility to other local groups to play with high level instrumentation. The idea is to give to the Studio a typical American sound, as the most important characteristic.
It is not easy to label the Joe Black Group under a determined musical genre, since its members are from very different musical backgrounds: because of this, the group pass from Fusion to Funky Jazz, through Soul, some ‘70s rock nuance and New Age.
ILARIA’S BIOGRAPHY
Ilaria has been studying singing since 6 years, starting with the baritone teacher Giovanni Palombella and continuing with Francesca Sisto, along with her cultural and musical association “Insieme per la musica" (“Together for musicâ€).
Ilaria starts her experience in the music field with the band Feedback and, at the same time, she takes part in a experimental project, both vocal and musical, together with Francesco La Sorsa and Walter Conte.
She takes also part in different singing events, reaching very important results. Her experience is then enriched when she goes back to her first band, the Feedback, and the rock group Silenzio Assenzio (“Silence Absintheâ€) for more than one year.
In August 2006, she meets Giovanni Orlando, and from the beginning they start to collaborate for a new musical project: the Joe Black Group.
It was time for Ilaria to give up the other 2 groups, with whom she had been working, and refusing any other commitment in order to dedicate herself completely to this new project. In fact, she will be completely free to express herself, by writing lyrics and arrangements, and to improve and experiment new vocal frontiers.
She has also attended several theatrical courses with the company Crest in Taranto and with the former company “Il teatro della vita†(“The theater of lifeâ€).
Her musical influences come really from all over, since she likes music itself in all its aspects and contamination, as a result of instinct and passions.
Joe's biography
John Orlando (Taranto) took the artistic diploma in piano at the Conservatory of his city nell'84 as instrumentalist begins to mature experience live at a popular local jazz of the city and simultaneously works as a DJ at some local radio and nightclubs. In May 2005 he founded the Joe Black Group with the aim of giving free rein to artistic musicians who are part of, mixing artistic and musical experiences of each. That is why the group is unlikely etichettabile towards a very specific musical genre.
NINA’S BIOGRAPHY
Nina was born in Taranto, in 1982. Ever since she was 8 years old one could see in her a natural attitude towards the music, while she used to listen to groups such as Kiss, Janis Joplin, Litfiba and Clash.
When she becomes 14 years old, she starts to play guitar, studying it by herself, inspired by Alanis Morissette's Jaggle little pill. At the age of 18, she steps for the first time on a stage with a group presenting an inedited song. In 2005, her attention is dragged towards the drums and in June 2007 she receives an electric bass as a gift.
In November 2007, Nina meets Joe (Giovanni Orlando), with which she founds out of the blue and spontaneously the Joe Black Group (Joe, Ilaria and Nina).
Right from the beginning, her human qualities and her great passion for music are conspicuously present. With Nina the band is complete, and she starts to write her own bass lines, which give her personal touch to songs. Besides, thanks to her musical skills, she also helps in arranging and mixing the songs of the group. In particular, she writes one of the most representative songs of the group My little soldier, that is inspired to real facts.
