KAT NEWLAND NOMINATED FOR INDIEHEAVEN’S 2008 MOMENTUM AWARDS

Kat Newland has been ministering in song since she was 5 years old, starting with the school Christmas play. Picking up the guitar at age 14, she found new ways to tell stories from her heart. She became a born again Christian in her early 20’s but fell away from her faith 2 years later through the tragic death of her mother, Velma, and through a violent crime against herself. It took her 16 years before she heard the voice of her Father in Heaven and she re-dedicated her life to her Lord in 1994. She started as a back up vocal for the praise and worship team at her church, Calvary Chapel and that evolved into leading worship for women’s’ retreats and special events. A year later she was asked to step into one of the worship leader roles and she led worship for 3 years before moving with her family to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She is currently the worship leader for Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Hyannis, MA. She ministers in song to the homeless in Hyannis, MA and she sings at Christian Coffeehouses throughout the New England area. She was accepted to sing at last years’ “Soulfest” which is a venue of over 125 mainstream and “indie” artists that come together for a 4 day event in the mountains of New Hampshire.
